Adolf Dassler, a German shoemaker, started making shoes in the 1920s. In 1928, athletes in the Olympics wore his shoes. On August 18, 1949, the company Adidas (from the shoemaker's name "Adi" from Adolf and "Das" from Dassler) was born.

In 1954, the German Soccer Team won the World Cup, wearing screw-in studs manufactured by Adidas. The company has also been known to seek out endorsements by known athletes like Franz Beckenbauer, Muhammad Ali, and Jesse Owens, the top athletes of their sport at the time.

In 2000, 3000 Athletes choose to wear the brand's trainers in the Olympic Games. In 2004, over 4000 athletes prefer the brand's trainers at the Olympic Games. In 2008, the brand is the Official Sportswear Partner of the Beijing 2008 Olympics, all athletes wear various trainers made by Adidas, and the list goes on.
